Coach's Code of Conduct

As a coach, I recognize my responsibilities to the players, parents and officials involved in the KASL Recreational Soccer Program. My goals in coaching a team are directed towards instilling a love of the game, providing an opportunity for players to enhance their skills, and encouraging their continued participation in the sport. It is by my example that sportsmanship, fair play and courtesy can best be taught to all participants.

In order to meet these objectives, I resolve that:

  • I will provide a safe, helpful and nurturing environment at all practices and games
  • I will lead by example, and practice good sportsmanship at all times
  • I will treat all players, game officials and spectators with courtesy and respect
  • I will adhere to the rules of the game and KASL policy, and I will require the same of my players and their parents
  • I will acknowledge winning as a result of hard work, skill development and fair play; BUT I WILL TEACH MY PLAYERS AND THEIR PARENTS THAT IT IS NEVER MORE IMPORTANT THAN GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP
  • I will teach my players that it is better to lose fairly than to win unfairly
  • I will provide every player an equal opportunity to play, to play varied positions, and to improve their skills and knowledge of the game
  • I will work to help every player improve, and I will recognize a player¹s effort as well as their talent
  • I will provide positive reinforcement, and demand the same of my players and their parents
  • I will maintain the highest level of integrity. Recognizing that I am a role model for young people, I will offer encouragement to all participants and play fairly.
